After vaulting out to a 2-0 lead, the Gilroy High varsity volleyball team withstood an Alisal comeback to eventually topple the Trojans 3-2 (25-23, 27-25, 17-25, 31-33, 15-13) in Salinas on Tuesday night.

Through 52 minutes of the Gilroy High field hockey team's Mount Hamilton Division showdown with first-place Archbishop Mitty on Wednesday, overtime appeared to be the likely destination.

The Christopher High girls varsity tennis team was without its top-two singles players as it took on Pajaro Valley on Tuesday in Watsonville. No problem.

Three of the four singles matches between the Christopher and North Salinas tennis team's went to third-set tiebreakers. The Cougars came out on the other end with team point in two of those.

The Gilroy and San Benito girls cross country teams entered Monday's Tri-County Athletic League dual meet undefeated – the Balers left that way, too.
