Prep Basketball: Cougars run out of gas in OT
GILROY—Christopher and Monte Vista Christian needed an extra quarter to decide the winner of Friday’s heated league contest. But it was the Mustangs who came out on top, handing the Cougars a heartbreaking 78-71 overtime loss at Christopher High.

Gilroy High’s Bubu Garcia was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 39th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Christopher High senior pitcher Aly Olvera efficiently negotiated the Monte Vista Christian lineup with ease, striking out 11 en route to no-hitting the Mustangs and a 5-1 Cougars' victory in the two teams Monterey Bay Athletic League opener Tuesday in Gilroy.
Softball: Mustangs win season opener, 4-0
Winning pitcher Lauren Castro pitched five scoreless innings, and Kaylana Mah and Anna Gamboa had two hits each to help Gilroy High’s softball team open the season with a 4-0 home win over Santa Teresa on Wednesday.

BASEBALL: Six Mustangs presented year-end league honors
Senior Bubu Garcia was voted the Gilroy High baseball team’s lone Tri-County Athletic League first-team representative - the third straight such distinction for the shortstop. In addition to Garcia, five other Mustangs received year-end accolades.
