Each week we will recognize one area male and female athlete for their performances. This week's are:

Runs in the eighth and ninth innings weren't enough to lift Gavilan past Ohlone in the Coast Conference opener. 

The Gavilan College women's volleyball team survived some inconsistencies on the road at Monterey Peninsula College, prevailing 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 12-25, 26-24) on Wednesday night.

Revolving door. Fountain of youth. Tradition. Good genes. Conveyor belt. Somehow, year in and year out, the Gilroy High wrestling team is rejuvenated. This season is no different. And as January creeps along – with Mid-Cals and the Tri-County Athletic League and Central Coast Section meets on the horizon, it’s about to get serious inside the Mustangs practice room at South Valley Middle School.

GILROY—Christopher’s slow start led to a quick sweep as it fell 10-25, 15-25, 17-25 to San Benito Thursday at home.

Local volleyball players of all skill levels are invited to join the Adrenaline Volleyball Club's new Sand Program. 

The Cougar lacrosse team won its third straight game, beating Pacific Collegiate 11-9 Friday at home. 

SAN JOSE—Christopher set four new school records at the Central Coast Section Track and Field Championship semifinals—and Vanessa Koontz was a part of each one.
