Mustangs look to end four-game skid; Acorns hope for first win

Gilroy and Willow Glen needed two overtimes and two rounds of shootouts to finally settle things Wednesday in the first round of the Central Coast Section field hockey playoffs.

Upward Sports flag football and cheer program will host its final sign up and football skill assessment days on July 25 and Aug. 1 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Anchor Point School, 2220 Pacheco Pass Rd. The programs are open to athletes in grades K through 8.

David Gonzalez scored 16 points to lead Gilroy High’s boys basketball team to a 63-61 win at Pajaro Valley on Friday night.

Angelica Carrillo pitched a two-hitter to lead Christopher High’s softball team to a 1-0 home win over North Salinas on Tuesday.

GILROY—On paper, there are a lot question marks surrounding Gilroy’s squad heading into the season. It graduated seven seniors and really only has one big man on the roster. It’s a young team, made up of mostly juniors and sophomores. But there’s an abundance of things you don't see on paper—and the Mustangs are more than happy to surprise their opponents.

GILROY—It’s often said that all good things must come to an end. That adage obviously doesn’t apply to the Gilroy High wrestling team.

Five of Gilroy's top academic performing seniors got a special treat on March 21 as they earned scholarships to attend the "7 on 7 Training Academy", which is hosted by coach Sherman Croft. The camp was held at Cabrillo College in Aptos.
