Gilroy snubbed by North Salinas, 1-0.

VANCOUVER, WASH.— The Gilroy Junior All Stars finished third in the Western Regional Tournament Wednesday, escaping Washington 7-5, thanks to a four-run seventh inning.

Major league catcher Chris Gimenez received an early Christmas and birthday present Friday. After almost a decade removed from California, the Gilroy native is finally coming home.

Gilroy welterweight Robert Guerrero admitted Wednesday that there has been a large defect in his past couple of training camps. He said he wasn’t sparring enough and that his sparring partners were inadequate. Perhaps that explains why he wasn’t sharp in his all-too-narrow victory over Aron Martinez last June.

With Monday's match against Alisal tied at 3-all, the Cougars' fate rested on the shoulders of No. 4 singles players Jesus Velasquez. 

Gilroy headed into Wednesday's match with Trinity with only two girls and Coach Daniel Valdez left with a great sense of pride. 

Christopher already trailed 3-0 heading into the final half inning at Leigh Saturday—but the hosts weren't done.

David Gonzalez scored 21 points to lead Gilroy High’s boys basketball team to a 70-61 home win over North Monterey County on Wednesday night.
