A 17-year-old male was not seriously injured during an attack and stabbing attempt Saturday night, and police identified and arrested three suspects involved in the incident.

A 17-year-old Morgan Hill resident was booked into Juvenile Hall for alleged assault with a deadly weapon on Saturday.

On Sunday, another 17-year-old Morgan Hill resident was booked into Juvenile Hall for alleged assault with a deadly weapon, and Luis Cruz, 21, of Morgan Hill was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for alleged assault with a deadly weapon.

According to Morgan Hill police Special Operations Sgt. Jerry Neumayer, the teenager was attacked at approximately 9:15 p.m. as he was walking home from a bus stop on Hale Avenue at Tilton Road. He told police two suspects came up to him and asked if he is a gang member, and he told them no and continued walking. The two males then got into a car, drove up to him and began yelling gang slurs at him, Neumayer said.

One of the suspects then got out of the car with a knife and tried to stab him repeatedly, as he attempted to run away. He was surrounded by three other males who got out of the vehicle, and one of the three pulled a knife and also tried to stab him.

He told police that he was punched several times by the group, but managed to escape and call police. The suspects left the area in an red older model compact car, but three were later identified by the victim, and one was arrested later that night.

The injured teenager was taken by ambulance to Saint Louise Regional Hospital and was later released. His wounds were mostly superficial, minor lacerations to his upper torso and abrasions and bruising on his face and head.

Neumayer said Monday the incident is not believed to be related to a stabbing outside a Gilroy club early Sunday morning that left one man dead.
