Semaj Crump

Gilroy PD chased down and arrested a burglar in the early hours of Monday.

Semaj Crump, a 24-year-old male from the City of Oakland, was apprehended at 3:40 a.m. after he fled on foot from the Super Taqueria restaurant at 410 E. Tenth St. in Gilroy as officers responded to an intruder alarm at the premises, according to Gilroy Police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza.

GPD officers witnessed Crump exiting the business via a smashed glass door. When Crump saw the officers, he dropped a bag containing burglar tools and attempted to flee on foot, said Espinoza. It appeared to officers that Crump had been unable to remove any items from the business, Sgt. Espinoza added.

Officers continued the foot chase for approximately a quarter of a mile, at which point they caught and arrested Crump.

A suspicious vehicle, a red and black GMC SUV, was seen in the area of the incident at the time. This vehicle is of interest, according to Espinoza.
