Dear Editor, What an excellent choice to have selected Mr. Pete

Superb Choice Made for Grand Marshall of the City’s Memorial Day Parade
Dear Editor,
What an excellent choice to have selected Mr. Pete Garcia to serve as Grand Marshall of the 2007 Gilroy Memorial Day Parade. I remember Mr. Garcia from the mid-70s, when I would drop off or pick up one of my four children at Live Oak High School.
As campus supervisor, Mr. Garcia made his job look so easy and so smooth, but in reality he had one of the toughest jobs on campus. Mr. Garcia knows how to communicate with young students because he understands how young people feel and what they are capable of. What I remember most about him was the manner in which he spoke to the students … you could tell he genuinely cared about the students and wanted them to be successful. He treated all students with the same respect and fairness, and in turn the students respected him.
Even today, Mr. Garcia continues to look after the students at Mt. Madonna Continuation School. By taking care of our children, he is also taking care of all of us. Mr. Garcia is a great role model for our students and our community. Congratulations Mr. Garcia and thank you for all you have done for our country, our community and our children.

Loves Newspaper’s Great Basketball Coverage, But What About Frosh Team?
Dear Editor,
Thank you for all the great stories covering the sports program at Gilrory High School. I’m a big basketball fan, so I love reading all the articles regarding the basketball games. One thing I noticed, you have not covered very much on the freshman girls basketball team. I know that they are only freshmen, but they also have the best record out of all the basketball teams in Gilroy High. These girls are our future varsity players. Please give them some recognition.

Caring Effort by Students at Saint Mary Brings a Smile To the Heart – and to Faces
Dear Editor,
Cheers for Saint Mary School children. They raised $7,680 for Operation Smile. The money will provide 64 operations for children with smile deformities like cleft lip or palate. The money doubled when Kids Changing Lives foundation matched the fundraiser. That should bring a smile to plenty of faces in Gilroy.
