At least two suspected gang members stabbed a man multiple times in southeast Gilroy shortly after midnight Wednesday, according to Gilroy Police Department Sgt. Jim Gillio.
A helicopter took the man, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, to a trauma hospital nearby after five officers arrived at the scene on the 500 block of East Eighth Street, Gillio said. One of two witnesses called 911 upon witnessing several subjects beat and stab the victim, who was walking around the area at the time, Gillio said.
Police said the suspects used an unknown object to stab the victim while making gang-related statements. It is unclear whether the 41-year-old victim – whose name has been withheld – knew the suspects.
The attackers did not rob the victim after they stabbed him, and based on the witnesses’ statements, Gillio said the motivation behind the attack was likely gang-related. Police were expected to meet again with the victim Wednesday: Even though he was conscious after the attack, the victim could not give a detailed statement due to his injuries, Gillio said.
