GILROY – The Orchard Valley Tornadoes, which gave up only five goals in the 10 regular-season games, played another strong defensive game as they blanked the Stingrays 2-0.

The U12 Girls Class III unit used Amanda Whitling in net in the first half before keeper Nichole Downing took over in the second half. The Tornadoes’ defensive line of Cloey LemMon, Stephanie Wan, Sarah Block, and Lindsay Pund, made certain their goalies were not severely tested throughout the game.

Midfielders Whitling, JC Clayton, Bella Comin, Lexi MacPhail, Clarissa Hammer, and Alex Seda made sure that the play was for the most part in the Tornadoes offensive end. Forwards Sarah Block, Amanda Kline, and Taylor Johnson had many shots with several good opportunities to score.

Block provided both Tornado goals – scoring first with a nice left-footer off a feed from Mary Thatcher. The second goal came after the midfield worked the ball ahead to Johnson – who ripped a shot that was saved by the Stingrays’ goalie. Block’s lethal left foot was there for the follow, and the Tornadoes pushed the lead to 2-0.

The Tornadoes are playing well heading into next week’s Disctric Cup play.
