Welcome to "Just Run" my modest attempt at a blog about all things running. My name is Chuck Kaekel and I have been running on and off for almost 40 years.

Like every parent, I worry about the health of my children. In my case, my worry is colored by the fact that I was obese as a teenager. One of the first questions I asked my pediatrician was how to prevent the same from happening to my child. And my child wasn’t even 2 weeks old.

As school bells again ring and kids with backpacks make their way across campus, beautiful singing waifs through the air at Gilroy's high schools. Thanks to two newly hired, energetic and enthusiastic music specialists, the choral program that retired teacher Phil Robb spent 30 years building into one of the best in Northern California is alive and well and will continue to be one of our city's great assets.

It goes beyond boxing. That much is evident.

The Catholic Diocese of San Jose, encompassing all of Santa Clara County, was inaugurated in 1981. It has grown steadily since then, to an estimated 650,000 members now. Yet, only three new parishes have been formed, the latest in 1994.

The keys are still firmly in the hands of Al Davis.
