Gilroy Police sent out this update:
The Ballybunion Fire grew over night to 100+ acres, continuing to move uphill. Fire crews worked all night in rugged steep terrain with replacement crews coming in this morning, including five additional hand crews. Helicopter water drops will begin this morning to assist the efforts. No homes or structures are threatened at this time.
Santa Teresa Boulevard between Miller Avenue and south of Club Drive will remain closed throughout the day. Fire Crews have asked residents to avoid the area to allow for emergency vehicle access. We appreciate your cooperation and patience in taking an alternate route around this area. Please drive safely and clear access for emergency vehicles throughout the town as crews will be coming in and out throughout the day.
Due to the fire, air quality in Gilroy is very poor. We recommend residents stay indoors with the doors and windows closed for safety. For information on respiratory safety, please visit https://www.cdc.gov/features/wildfires/index.html.
While the Gilroy Fire Department appreciates the offers of donations, NO DONATIONS ARE NEEDED AT THIS TIME. Fire Departments have everything they need and are well prepared and stocked at this time. Also, please do not bring donations to Eagle Ridge, Ballybunion or any of the local fire stations. If the need for donations changes, we will let the community know.
