Charges dismissed for local man
Paul Perez Jr., 45 of Gilroy, was wrongfully arrested March 10 for being under the influence. The District Attorney’s Office dismissed the charge in July.

Caught stealing a camera, on camera
Police are searching for a male suspect who allegedly removed the surveillance camera at the back of Buchanan’s Night Club Tuesday.
The act was captured on the camera.
Around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, a man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt removed the video surveillance camera from the rear of the bar, that’s located at 7421 Monterey St.
Police have yet to identify the suspect.
Off-duty cop helps in arrest
An off-duty San Jose Police officer came to the rescue of a woman who was the victim of a purse theft Tuesday night.
A woman was walking northbound on the 9000 block of Kern Avenue, when she accidentally dropped her purse. Two suspects – a 15-year-old female and Tyler Costa, 20, picked up the purse and started running around 7:40 p.m.
The off-duty police officer saw the suspects running – and thought it was suspicious – so he ran after them for about a block and detained the girl and Costa until Gilroy police arrived to the scene. Both were arrested for theft.
Police pursuit down Seventh Street
A short police pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended with the suspect colliding with a parked car on Seventh Street Wednesday evening.
A 2004 red Dodge Ram was stolen from the area of Taft Court when an officer patrolling the area spotted it on Chestnut and 10th streets. The officer signaled for the driver to stop, but instead the driver continued and turned onto Seventh Street – initiating a short pursuit. The driver collided into another car on Seventh Street around 6 p.m., then got out and ran away.
Police are currently obtaining an arrest warrant for the suspect.
Clerk tries to trap man in Valero
A clerk at Valero gas station on First Street thought he could catch a man suspected of stealing lottery tickets inside his store Friday morning, until the suspect shattered the front door and ran.
The clerk recognized the man – described as a Hispanic male in his 20s wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with red strings and red zipper and red shoes – as someone who has allegedly stolen lottery tickets before from the Valero at 1190 First St.
On Friday at 8:40 a.m. when the clerk spotted the man and allegedly saw him steal $7 in lottery tickets, he locked the front doors, trapping the suspect inside.
The suspect used a glass bottle to shatter the glass of the door and ran south on Westwood Drive. Police are still searching for the suspect.
Man bound in robbery on Monterey Street
On Saturday afternoon, a man said four suspects broke into his home on Monterey Street, bound him and took his wallet, suitcase and drove away in his car.
Police are currently investigating the incident, and anybody with information is encouraged to call 846-0300.
The victim could not give an description of the suspects. They allegedly stole his cell phone, $300 in cash, his wallet, and a black suitcase containing clothing.
