Nearly a dozen men, including one man with a gun, assaulted a victim outside his East Seventh Street apartment, broke his window and pointed a gun inside his home before fleeing the scene, police reported.

However, no shots were fired and no one was injured in the Wednesday night attack, Sgt. John Sheedy said.

About 8 p.m., the victim, who in his mid 20s, was in front of his apartment complex on the 500 block of East Seventh Street when a white extended cab pickup truck pulled up and several men got out, Sheedy said.

Police said the young males believed to be in their 20s asked the victim’s street gang affiliation. The man said he did not have one. One assailant threatened the victim with a firearm, but the victim escaped into his apartment, locking the door behind him, Sheedy said.

Gang members tried to force their way in, according to police, and broke the window after failed attempts. They were yelling gang slogans during the attack, police said.

The victim did not know his assailants, who fled before police arrived, police said. Officers recovered evidence at the scene and are conducting interviews.

Thursday morning, several residents of the largely Hispanic neighborhood down the street from Eliot Elementary School either didn’t answer their doors, spoke little English or weren’t home when the attack occurred. Though a few of the residences showed damage to their front windows, neighbors denied that they were the ones attacked. It wasn’t immediately apparent which house was targeted.
