available to local organizations, and more is on the way.
GILROY – The Walton Foundation made more than $7,000 of grant money available to local organizations, and more is on the way.
The Walton Family Foundation, Inc, based out of . was established as the culmination of the philanthropic interests of the family of Sam M. and Helen R. Walton. The Family’s purpose in establishing the Foundation was to focus their philanthropic efforts to assure that their charitable giving would have the most positive impact.
The foundation presentated funding under the Matching Grant Prgram to the Gilroy Unified School District. The Gilroy Unified School district received a total of $5,500. Eliot Elementary School, South Valley Junior High School and Glen View Elementary each will receive $1,000 under the direction of Olivia Schaad, Directory of Curriculum and Instruction Services.
The foundation also presented a Literacy Grant to the Friends of Reading Program and Eliot Elementary School. The two entities were each awarded with a $500 check.
Finally, a Neighborhood Safety Grant was given to the Girloy Police Department Safety Patrol, Directory – Mike Teriasky, and the Gilroy Fire Department. Each government agency received a $750 check from the Walton Foundation.
The Walton Family Foundation, Inc. is a private foundation that is principally involved in programs of its own initiative, rather than funding unsolicited grants. However, from time to time, grants are made to organizations whose work embodies one or more of the goals of the Foundation.
The Foundation funds only 501(c)(3) organizations and public entities. Requests from the same organization will be considered only once every twelve months. Proposals are reviewed by staff and acknowledged within approximately three weeks of receipt. Most proposals will be processed and acted upon within four months.
