Dads sometimes get the short end of the stick—especially when it comes to the one day a year designated just for them: Father’s Day. There typically are no flowers sent to workplaces, no hand-delivered candy. Perhaps there’s a card along with a tie or some cologne that will remain in the bathroom for years.
But residents of the South Valley want to recognize the fathers—birth, step and adoptive—who have stood up and been amazing dads: taking care of their kids, loving them, guiding them.
And though sometimes dads remain in the background, their presence is always felt, always appreciated.
The dads you’ll read about in the following submitted stories are real men, role models who remained in their children’s lives and who helped raise little ones into adults. Some dads are strong and silent, some sensitive and others outgoing and gregarious.
On Father’s Day—and every day of the year—we offer a handshake and a hearty slap on the shoulder to the dads whose love and discipline have guided us through the years.
