A woman and two children, ages 4 and 6, suffered serious but non-fatal injuries in a rollover accident that occurred around 4:20 p.m. Friday on northbound Highway 101 near the Pacheco Pass Highway overpass by Gilroy Crossing.
Police say the 26-year-old female, who was driving a Toyota Sienna registered to a Morgan Hill address, may have fallen asleep at the wheel before veering off to the right, careening through the side rail and flipping into a grassy knoll near exit 356.
The driver and two passengers were transported to the helipad at St. Louise Regional Hospital, where they were flown to another location for further medical attention.
Police, who do not believe alcohol was involved, say the 4-year-old female passenger may have suffered a broken femur.
A Gilroy fire engine, ambulance and several California Highway Patrol units responded to the crash, which clogged rush hour traffic between 10th Street and the overpass.
