Morgan Hill – Kathleen Cha, president of the California American Association of University Women, will give a free talk titled “Through the Looking Glass: Images of Women in Advertising over the Past Century” on Saturday at the Morgan Hill Playhouse.

The public is invited.

Cha will provide a provocative, humorous and intriguing look at the impact of advertising on women’s cultural revolution, asking the question, “Was advertising the mirror or creator of women’s image and role?”

Cha’s presentation is an adaptation of the popular exhibit she coordinated in 2000, when she was president of the Bay Area Women in Communication Network.

The exhibit displayed samples of print, radio and television ads that showed how women have been portrayed in a century of advertising.

Cha is currently AAUW California State president. In her professional life, she is the senior communications officer for the Association of Bay Area Governments.

A crisis communications specialist, she has won numerous awards for her community outreach projects, including national recognition for her coordination of community and safety for HUD (Housing and Urban Development), for crisis communications during Southern California fires, earthquakes and the Los Angeles riots.

The program is sponsored by the AAUW Interbranch Council of Santa Clara County; the council includes county branches from Gilroy to Palo Alto.

The talk begins at 11am. The Playhouse is located at 17000 Monterey Road at East Fifth Ave, Morgan Hill.
