Gilroy pounded out 10 singles and a double and drew 10 walks during Wednesday’s 9-10-year-old All-Star game. The game was shortened after four innings due to the mercy rule.

The win advances Gilroy to the semifinals Friday at 5:30.

Aaron Whitehouse turned in the best pitching performance of the tourney, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing six hits, while striking out six.

The defensive play of the game was when center fielder Jacob Vasquez made a beautiful catch on a hard-hit line drive to right center. He had to charge in and to his right, catching the ball in full stride.

Another nice play was made when right fielder Brendan Reimer chased down a line drive Reimer made a quick and accurate throw to second baseman Zachary Loo, who turned and threw a perfect strike to catcher Daniel Patterson. Patterson tagged out the runner trying to score from second.

Gilroy scored seven runs in the second inning, three runs in the third and a four runs in the fourth.

Jonathon Holliday was 2-2 with three RBIs. Mark Anthony Torres was 1-1 with two RBIs. Philip Cid Castro was 1-2 with two RBIs. Zachary Loo was 1-3 with an RBI. Brendan Reimer was 2-2. Justin Hale was 1-2 with the hit of the game, a double that hit off the fence on one bounce. Daniel Patterson was 1-2, and Christian Alonzo and Jacob Vasquez were each 1-1.
