DEAR EDITOR:
Thanks to Sports Editor Scott Forstner for the great articles on Coach Bobby Garcia. I was an offensive/defensive end on the 1972 and 1973 teams at Gavilan. I was an out-of-stater (Cambridge, Ohio) who learned so much from Coach Garcia. He not only prepared us well for our games but he prepared us all, in so many ways, for life as did Coaches Latzke and Johnson.
The lessons I learned from Gavilan College football have helped me deal with the adversity life gives us. It also taught me to enjoy the good times and live each day to the fullest. I thank Bobby and his staff for giving me the opportunity to play for the Rams.
After Gavilan College I was able to transfer to Occidental College in Los Angeles and play two more years of football and then three years of minor league football. I could not have done this without experiencing football at Gavilan College. I’m now a teacher and coach and hopefully I have been able to pass on not only the great knowledge but the passion I learned from Coach Garcia and his fine staff.
I was unaware of our reunion. I would have loved to have been there. My teammates were awesome. We played hard and had fun. We worked so hard and it all paid off with a National Championship. Thank you all for the great times at Gavilan College!
