GILROY – In a fit of jealousy, a 33-year-old man stabbed his 17-year-old girlfriend Sunday night in the bedroom they rented on Martin Street, according to housemates.
The teen-age girl, Gael Gonzalez, remained in critical condition Monday with life-threatening injuries, according to city police. When police arrived shortly after 9 p.m., following a 9-1-1 call, Gonzalez had stab wounds in her abdomen and was airlifted to a San Jose trauma center.
Police are now looking for the suspected assailant, Delfino Javier Jimenez Gonzalez, who fled the scene. He is described as, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 200 to 225 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Housemate Miguel Saldana referred to him by his middle names, Javier Jimenez.
Jimenez will likely face an attempted murder charge, according to police spokeswoman Capt. Debbie Moore.
Saldana said Jimenez became enraged because he heard Gonzalez had gone out with another man Saturday night. Both Saldana and housemate Maria Zavaleta said they never suspected such violence out of Jimenez.
Blood stains still could be seen on the kitchen floor Monday afternoon at the 133 Martin St. house.
A police crime scene team worked into the early morning hours Monday, according to a neighbor.
Police suggested Jimenez and Gonzalez might have been married, but Saldana said they were boyfriend and girlfriend.
Gonzalez did not go to school, Zavaleta said. Instead, she worked at a Gilroy nursery. Jimenez was unemployed, according to Zavaleta.
Eight adults and three children live in the modest house. None of the adults are relatives, Saldana said; they are simply friends.
Most of them work in the evenings, Zavaleta said. At the time of the stabbing, Serafin Urias was the only person home, other than the couple.
Urias does not speak English, but Zavaleta answered for him.
“He heard everything, but he said he doesn’t understand what happened,” she said.
