Overnight firefighters made significant progress on the Ballybunion fire and now have reported that it is 35 percent contained. Overnight as the wind slackened and the humidity rose, there was no significant growth of the fire. The fire is expected to be contained by Friday.
Firefighters will continue to establish and maintain containment lines and will serve as a line of defense for homes. The steep terrain and a forecast of gusty afternoon winds remain a concern.
Total fire personnel today is expected to be 83, which will include three hand crews and bulldozers, 24 engines, one water tender and three helicopters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
