The Christopher High baseball team celebrated Senior Day with an 8-1 win over North Monterey County on Monday – a victory that sets the stage for two big games to close out the season.
The Cougars (19-6 overall, 14-2 Monterey Bay League) play Monterey and Monte Vista Christian on the road Wednesday and Friday, respectively. Outcomes of those will determine if CHS clinches a share, or all, of a league championship.
If the Cougars get by the Toreadors (17-9 overall, 14-3 MBL) on Wednesday the Friday’s contest against the Mustangs (21-4 overall, 14-2 MBL) will be for the outright title – assuming MVC beats North County on Wednesday. Should CHS fall at Monterey, then a win is a must against MVC to earn a piece of the crown.
The Cougars are 1-1 against both teams this season.
On Monday, senior Mario Talamante got the nod on the hill and went five innings, striking out six to get the win. Senior Bryant Cid had a home run, double and three RBIs, Nate Davis had two hits and two RBIs and Brandon Irby also connected for two hits.
