BASKETBALL: Former Ballers win first AAU tournament title

Members of the Gilroy and Morgan Hill NJB All-Star Ballers team that won the Silicon Valley championship and reached the national semifinals this spring have continued their success together in a newly formed AAU team known as the Gamers.

Part of Joe Lampkins’ Club Prototype, the group of third- and fourth-graders won its first AAU tournament title last weekend in San Carlos. The locals went undefeated, beating the host team from Paye’s Place 45-27 in the championship game.

The Gamers made their AAU debut two weeks ago at a national qualifier in Pacifica, where they advanced with a top-four finish. Their one loss came in the semifinals against the No. 2-nationally ranked 916 Select of Sacramento.

Coached by Chris Schilling and Toni Greene, the Gamers include C.J. Colyer, Tanner Eastus, Drew Gumin, Jason Scirigione, Kyle White, Marcus Greene, Kyle Schilling, Owen Browne and Will Waxman. Six of the players were part of the Gilroy-Morgan Hill NJB team.
