GILROY – A 42-year-old farm worker reportedly told police he “blacked out” and doesn’t remember beating two housemates with a stick and stabbing one in the back with a knife at about 4 a.m. Monday.

Police booked Cristobal Reyes Garcia for attempted murder and two counts each of assault with a deadly weapon and making terrorist threats, all felonies. He is being held at county jail.

The CalSTAR helicopter paramedic team airlifted the stabbing victim to San Jose Medical Center. He has been released.

Both victims are males in their 20s, police said.

The alleged attack took place at the three men’s home at 7480 Roger’s Lane. Garcia told police in an interview that he thought some people were going to try to kill him, and he blacked out on his way home early Monday morning.

Police did not say from where Garcia was returning, but when he got home, they said he got a knife from the kitchen and went into the two victims’ bedroom, brandishing both the blade and a wooden stick. He struck both victims with the stick and, in the course of the struggle, stabbed one in the back with the knife.

Police said they believed Garcia was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack. Police said they are also looking into whether Garcia suffers from a mental or emotional disorder.

Garcia is currently unemployed as a farm worker. He is a native of Mexico and not a United States citizen. He told police he has no family members living in the area.
