7:30pm to decide whether to hold a special election or appoint a
local to replace the vacancy left by the late TJ Owens.
Gilroy – The Gilroy Unified School District board will meet today at 7:30pm to decide whether to hold a special election or appoint a local to replace the vacancy left by the late TJ Owens.
Superintendent Edwin Diaz will discuss the options with the board before the members cast their vote.
The board must abide by a 60-day deadline.
If the board recommends making an appointment, as the agenda says, they will assemble a committee of three board members to develop a plan.
The board will also take action on an amendment to a report detailing the district’s need for fully qualified educators.
The declaration, which was approved in June, has been revised because district officials anticipate that an additional two emergency credentialed teachers will be hired this school year.
During the meeting Jackie Horejs, GUSD assistant superintendent of educational services, will present additional data regarding Gilroy High School students’ performance on the SAT.
At a previous meeting the board requested a more complete report of the SAT scores.
The information presented also will include data on the number of seniors taking the SAT, state and county comparisons of students who took the SAT over the past six years, comparisons with other local high schools, the factors that influence scores and who takes the test, a summary of GHS support and future challenges.
