Gang members threw rocks and fired a gun at two people in a car in east Gilroy Tuesday morning, but no one was hurt, police said.
Two pedestrians threw rocks at two people in a car about 10:30 a.m. as it drove down Murray Avenue just south of Leavesley Road, Gilroy Police Sgt. Wes Stanford said. The victims then pulled into a parking lot on the east side of Murray and immediately came under fire from an unknown subject, police said. Although the rocks and bullets damaged the car, no one was injured, police said.
The victims fled the scene in the car, and an officer stopped them after noticing the car matched a witness’ description of the victim’s vehicle, police said.
Officers at the scene confirmed that the car was struck by numerous bullets and rocks, police said. A single bullet struck a second unrelated vehicle’s windshield in the parking lot, police said. The parking lot is bordered by a convenience store, a fast food restaurant, and a motel – all of which were open for business at the time of the shooting, police said.
Police did not indicate why they believe the shooting was gang-related.
