Should the city plan for and fund construction of a traffic-free public plaza downtown?
– Before jumping off that bridge, I’d like to see us block off a possible site for events, say Christmas tree lighting, concerts, etc. Seems like we spend money on ideas for downtown to find out that the merchants want something else – redoing the parking and lighting springs to mind. Maybe prudence is the better part of planning in this case?
– I have mixed feelings … have to say no.
– Sorry but I have to say it … downtown is already traffic free!
– Yes. Every Downtown that is well planned out has a plaza or meeting place for the community. Blocking off Fifth Street in between Monterey Road and Eigleberry Street would work.
– No. We need all the traffic we can get downtown.
