SV Symphony Announces Walk
Gilroy – The South Valley Symphony has announced the 31st annual running of the Mount Madonna Challenge 6K walk and race and 12K race to be held at the Mount Madonna County Park on Sunday, Aug. 27.
Runners will gather at the Sprig Lake picnic area at the base of the park on Highway 152. The 6K walk and run event will commence at 8:30am sharp followed Pre-registration fee is $13 without T-shirt and $18 with T-shirt and should be mailed no later than Wednesday care of the South Valley Symphony, Mt. Madonna Challenge, P.O. Box 1347, Gilroy, Calif., 95021-1347. Online registration: www.active.com or www.the schedule.com. Day-of-race registration fees will be $18 without T-shirt and $25 with T-shirt. Day-of-race registration begins at 7:15 am.

Volunteers needed for orientation
Gilroy – Students heading to Gilroy High School in the fall are invited to attend an orientation and pick up their class schedule from Tuesday through Thursday. Freshman beginning GHS this month are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday morning, while upper classmen are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. The high school still needs volunteers for the three-day event.
Volunteers may sign up for an all-day shift, from 8:30am to 4:15pm or half day from 8:30am to 12:30pm, or 12:30 to 4:15pm. The event will be staged at the GHS Student Center.
