Gas Station Robbed at Gunpoint
Morgan Hill – Police are hunting two men believed to have held up a Shell gas station at gunpoint Sunday evening. The robbery occurred shortly after 6:30pm at 810 E. Dunne Avenue.. A female clerk was confronted by two men brandishing handguns. The clerk was not injured. Police describe the men at Hispanic, between 18- and 20-years old, 5 feet, 6 inches tall and between 150 and 160 pounds. She told police one suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a red shirt and blue jeans, while the other suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Gang-Banging Vandals Arrested
Gilroy – Two men pulled up next to a car at the intersection of Church Street and Welburn Avenue over the weekend and threw a rock, creasing the victim’s car door. The men made gang signs with their hands and pounded on their chests. Gilroy police found and arrested the men at 8:15pm Saturday on Gurries Drive: Martin Arnold Rodriguez, 27, of the 7100 block of Rosanna Street, and Balerrano Gallardo, 22, of San Jose. Both were charged with felony vandalism and gang nuisance; Gallardo was also charged on a warrant for a parole violation.
Officer Injured Outside Gilroy Bar
Gilroy – The popular Rio Nilo bar was just about to close in Sunday’s wee hours, but two men insisted on being let in. When the security guard refused – it was four minutes before the bar’s 2am closing time, he explained – Jorge Nolasco Lozano became aggressive and attacked the guard. When police arrived, Lozano didn’t hesitate to hit Officer Jose Barrera either, leaving the Gilroy officer with an injured leg. Lozano, 23, of the 500 block of IOOF Avenue, was arrested at 1:56am Sunday outside the bar on charges of fighting in public and resisting arrest. His friend from Hollister, Juan Antonio Ramirez, 31, was arrested minutes later, at 2:01am, for resisting arrest.
High School Yearbook Party
Gilroy – Students are invited to the Gilroy High School yearbook sign-out party in the student center tonight. In addition to receiving books early, students can listen to a live band, enjoy food and win prizes in a raffle. Tickets are $5 and available during lunch in front of the gym foyer.
Health Fair Planned for Local Seniors
Gilroy – Local seniors are invited to attend a free health fair Thursday courtesy of the Leadership Gilroy Class of 2007.
The “Senior Safety and Health Awareness Fair” will run from 9am until 2pm at the Gilroy Senior Center. Attendees will receive a “goody bag,” safety demonstration, health and safety information and hourly door prizes.
Highlights include safety demonstrations, a free lunch for first 250 attending seniors, free goodie bags for all participants, and free transportation from senior housing complexes, upon request. Call 846-0370 to RSVP or request free transportation assistance.
