The California Highway Patrol and student leaders from Gilroy High School and San Benito High School recently completed the IMPACT Seat Belt Safety Challenge, a program designed to educate teens about the importance of wearing a seat belt.
A seat belt survey was completed at each of the rival high schools after a school assembly, advertisements and weeks of promotion. The results revealed improved seat belt usage at both schools and many students were observed tugging on their seat belt to motion to the observers their emphatic seat belt usage.
GHS won the friendly competition with 98.1 percent compliance. San Benito’s compliance was 95.5 percent.
