Gilroy – Ken Higgins has been named the new manager of the Wal-Mart store in Gilroy. Higgins began his duties on Sept. 18.
“I have been given a wonderful career opportunity by coming to Gilroy,” said Higgins.
Higgins joined the Wal-Mart family in 2001, after spending more than 20 years in law enforcement, the last 10 years with the Missouri Department of Public Safety. He started his Wal-Mart career as a manager-in-training in Columbia, Mo. Upon completion of the training, he was promoted to assistant manager with a Sam’s Club in Sioux City, Iowa, a position he also held at a Wal-Mart store in Jefferson City, Mo. In 2003, he was promoted to co-manager of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in St. Roberts, Mo – his last assignment prior to coming to Gilroy. He has a master’s degree in education from Drury College in Springfield, Mo.
Higgins replaces Michael Kemp, who has been promoted to a pharmacy district manager.
“We are happy to welcome Ken to the Gilroy Wal-Mart,” said Wal-Mart District Manager Colin Johnstone. “He will be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable addition to this store and the community.”
Higgins and his wife, Karen, have been married for 31 years. They have three grown sons and three grandchildren who live in Missouri.
