DEAR EDITOR:

I have been a special education aide for special needs children in the classroom for more than 20 years. I’m extremely concerned about Gov. Schwarzenegger’s proposed budget cuts. California is the fifth largest economy in the world, yet we are looking at budget cuts to schools, hospitals, and nursing homes.

Most recently, the governor announced that school districts may have to wait years to collect billions of dollars that they are owed under Proposition 98. Our schools already are in a crisis state without losing billions more dollars that Californians voted to dedicate to classrooms. During his campaign, the governor pledged not to touch education spending. Yet, within a month of being sworn into office, he is already there.
