Senior Patrick Mank received the distinguished recognition from the Mission Trail Athletic League, voted first team all-league for the 2012 lacrosse season, CHS head coach Tim Pirozzoli announced Monday.
Mank, who played through a back injury, served as the team’s captain for the second-year program that played its first at the varsity level.
“Patrick is a great kid and a born leader,” Pirozzoli said.
Mank put together a string of eight straight games where he either scored a goal or had an assist, doing that after making a transition from midfielder to attacking forward.
“He flourished after changing positions,” Pirozzoli added.
Meanwhile, senior Dillon Babb was selected to second team.
“The biggest thing for Dillon this year was that he improved his stick skills to match his physicality. And the league took notice,” Pirozzoli said.
At the team’s year-end banquet, Mank was named the Cougars’ Most Valuable Offensive Player and Babb the Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Mikey Pirnik took home the team’s Sportsman of the Year award and Jesus Ramos was given the Cougar Pride award.
“Mikey was someone who always hustled and gave his all,” Pirozzoli said. “And Jesus stepped into a position not many wanted to play and was our starting goalie all year.”
