Community Solutions will use Challenge Grant to support local
programs
Gilroy – Community Solutions, a non-profit business operating in Gilroy, Morgan Hill and Hollister, recently received a $50,000 grant from the Sobrato Foundation that will be used to support local programs and services.
The grant does come with strings attached but they’re beneficial to the local agency. The Sobrato Foundation will donate another $25,000 if Community Solutions manages to raise $25,000 by February of next year.
The idea is to assist organizations in building their giving programs and to help them become self-sustaining, said Community Solutions Spokeswoman Cecilia Clark.
To raise the cash, the non-profit has partnered with the South Valley Quilt Association. The group will create a quilt honoring mothers. Donors choosing to purchase a square ($150 or more) will need to specify what words they want added to the quilt to honor a mother or mother figure, in their life.
The quilt, “Fabric of Our Community,” will “evolve throughout the campaign as new honorees are added, creating a textured story of motherhood, hope and community-building,” according to the Community Solutions press release.
The final piece of art will be on display at the 2006 Harvest Quilt Show at the Taste of Morgan Hill in September. Locals are also welcome to give a flat donation.
“The Sobrato Foundation takes pride in partnering with Community Solutions on this 2-to-1 Challenge Grant,” said Diane Ford, executive director of the Sobrato Foundation. “We’re confident they will meet the challenge and that the impact of each donor’s gift will be felt by the more than 12,000 individuals and families they service each year.”
Community Solutions offers counseling services, education, crisis intervention and housing programs for families, children and individuals. The agency partners with community-based organizations, law enforcement, local schools and county health and human service providers.
In 2005, Community Solutions helped more than 12,000 locals make positive changes and become more self-reliant, according to the organization.
