Stabbing victim, 83, recovering
Gilroy – Detectives were able to speak with the 83-year-old stabbing victim over the weekend, one week after the Feb. 4 attack. However, police are still searching for a motive in the unusual incident.
“He is cooperating with us,” said Gilroy Police Sgt. Kurt Svardal. “He’s trying to tell us everything he remembers.”
The victim was stabbed about 9pm after answering the door of his Church Street home. An unidentified man stabbed him in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.
Police have active leads in the case and are trying to piece everything together.
“We’re getting information slowly but surely,” Svardal said.
So far, investigators have not been able to rule out gang activity, however, they have not been able to confirm it either.
“Usually if it’s gang-related it’s one gang making a statement against another,” Svardal explained. “Who’s going to make a statement against an 83-year-old? The pieces of the puzzle aren’t adding up.”
