A 27-year-old Gilroy man died in a motorcycle collision Tuesday night in Morgan Hill area, according to the California Highway Patrol. Jesus Lombera Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders just after 7:10 p.m., the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office confirmed.
Lombera was headed westbound on Sycamore Avenue, west of Oak Glen Avenue, when he lost control of his 2001 Honda motorcycle while traveling at an unknown speed, according to a CHP press release. The motorcycle continued off the roadway and Lombera was ejected from the vehicle and hit a large oak tree on the shoulder of the road.
After hitting the tree, the motorcycle continued off the road and ran into a fence post. Ultimately, the motorcycle landed in a field of grapes, authorities said.
Though emergency personnel attempted to revive Lombera, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation, but authorities said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor.
