DUI checkpoint planned for Friday night

The Gilroy Police Department plans to conduct a DUI a driver's license checkpoint between the hours of 9 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. on August 3 at an undisclosed location within the city.

A Paso Robles man is a suspect in a kidnapping and shooting that left two men dead in the Monterey County town of San Ardo.

This week, Gilroy Police worked extra shifts at the Garlic Festival as well as on the streets patrolling. They responded to incidents of methamphetamine sales,  drunk driving and theft, as well as several incidents of public intoxication at the Garlic Festival. Here are a few of those incidents:

Garcia Torres’ plea hearing postponed to Aug. 29

Antolin Garcia Torres’ appearance in court was waived for his hearing in San Jose Tuesday, and the judge scheduled an Aug. 29 court date to discuss the murder suspect’s request for unspecified records from Verizon that could be related to the disappearance of Morgan Hill teen Sierra LaMar. 

Sierra’s suspected killer scheduled to plea Tuesday

The Morgan Hill man accused of killing 15-year-old cheerleader Sierra LaMar will appear in court for a plea hearing Tuesday morning.

Man stabbed with screwdriver in soccer field

At 7:38 p.m. on July 29, a 25-year-old male was walking in the soccer field behind South Valley Middle School when two unknown suspects allegedly stabbed him with a screwdriver, causing non-life threatening injuries.
