Parental wisdom and advice—also knowns as “Mom-isms”—were frequent back in the day, and often made my sister and I say, “What?”

If I could sum up my favorite memories with mom, they all involve talking over cups of coffee in grade school, by phone in college and through Skype after I headed off to South America for a year, leaving everything and everyone I knew behind.

My beautiful mom makes me so proud! She’s overcome many challenges. Her mother died when she was just 10 years old. She then had a difficult stepmother. She put herself through college and was the first generation to graduate in her family. 

Dear Mom,

Who is my momma? My momma is a wife, daughter, sister, friend, teacher, leader, servant and Momma. My mom is not only the most inspirational person in my life, but is a true warrior. Now, I know she hates being called a warrior because she feels like she has to be forever strong for everyone in my family, but I'm sorry mom, that is just who you are.

There are not enough pages in this newspaper to tell everything about my mom and how wonderful she is. I know it sounds cliché, but my mom is my best friend. Always has been, always will be. So allow me to share with you a little bit of what sets my mom apart from all the rest.
