Morgan Hill – Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies and Morgan Hill police searched wooded areas between Monterey Road and U.S. 101 north of Morgan Hill Tuesday afternoon, but in the end failed to locate a parolee-at-large who fled from deputies.
The pursuit began about 12:36pm when deputies stopped Donald E. Barlow, 40, of San Jose as he walked in the area of Monterey Road and Laguna Avenue near the Coyote Creek Golf Course, according to Deputy Edward Wise.
“When the deputy attempted to contact him, he ran eastbound from Monterey Road towards 101; the deputy was apparently able to get close enough to him to identify him,” Wise said.
Barlow served time on a domestic violence charge and is wanted for a probation violation, Wise said.
Additional deputies were called in as Barlow ran toward the area along Coyote Creek into dense undergrowth and brush. Ten deputies assisted in the search, and two MHPD traffic officers, a patrol officer and a detective set up a perimeter and searched for Barlow.
Wise said no Sheriff’s office K9 units were available at the time, but a CHP helicopter scanned the area.
The search was called off more than an hour after Barlow fled.
