PREP ROUNDUP: CHS volleyball upends GHS

The Gilroy High volleyball team pushed its league unbeaten set streak to 18 straight with a 25-19, 25-16 and 25-12 victory over Tri-County Athletic League cross division opponent Carmel on Tuesday night in Gilroy.
Head coach Craig Martin said the Mustangs were able to limit their errors and had just three service errors on the night.
The win is the Mustangs (11-7 overall, 6-0 TCAL) sixth in their last eight outings.
Connor Escobar recorded a match-high 18 kills, Jonny Lester had 21 assists and Lucas Gravell added eight kills and posted five blocks for points.
Gilroy has the next two days off before hitting the road for Watsonville High on Friday night.
• A four-set triumph (22-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21) over Pajaro Valley on Tuesday night propelled the Christopher High volleyball team to 5-2 in the Tri-County Athletic League.
TENNIS
The Christopher High tennis team moved passed short-handed Watsonville 6-1 on Tuesday.
The Wildcatz had to default the No. 4-singles and No. 3-doubles matches.
Veasna Khay (No. 1-singles), Kyle Kwong (No. 2-singles), Ryan Cockcroft (No. 3-singles) and Chris Drewry and Geoffrey He (No. 2-doubles) had match wins for the Cougars.
BASEBALL
Palma pitcher Brandon Creecy kept the Gilroy High offense under wraps, going the distance in a Chieftains’ 5-0 win Tuesday in Gilroy.
A three-run sixth inning aided in Palma’s push to improve to 4-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League. The Mustangs (3-7 overall, 1-6 TCAL) will face Palma again on Thursday, this time in Salinas.
GAVILAN
The Gavilan baseball team dropped a Coast Conference road tilt to West Valley 3-2 on Tuesday, sending the Rams to 5-3 in conference play.
The three defeats have come by a combined total of four runs, including a pair of one-run setbacks.
Gavilan (12-8 overall) hosts Monterey Peninsula College (9-11, 1-7 conference) on Thursday. First pitch is 2:30 p.m.
• The Gavilan softball team fell 3-2 to Foothill on Tuesday.
