District owner Darin Dixon

Owners of The District Theater in downtown Gilroy, Darin and Tina Dixon, are helping out one of their own. Melody Young, the mother of their lead bartender, Stacey, was diagnosed in February this year with Stage 3 lung cancer.
Stacey told the owners of her family’s devastating news, and how she wanted to set up a fund for her mom. The money raised would be put towards a mini vacation for Melody to use after her first round of aggressive chemo and radiation treatments, giving her something positive to look forward to.
Sing For A Cause is a four-week karaoke competition held at The District. Each paid $5 competition entry is being donated to Melody’s mini vacation fund; donations are also being accepted without having to belt out your favorite tune.
Other downtown businesses have also rallied behind their cause. Jorge Roacho with the T-Shirt Place donated hats to sell for Melody’s fund. The first Friday night’s competition ended with daughter Stacey singing a karaoke song on stage with her mom. Sing for a Cause is every Friday through April 14 with the finals held on April 28. Melody began her chemo and radiation treatments April 3.
