JUCO Football: Rams beat Cabrillo for first win

GILROY—Three Gavilan College running backs erupted for more than 100 yards apiece Saturday night to key a convincing 44-21 Gold Coast League victory over Cabrillo at Christopher High School.

Break out the brooms. Gavilan continued to bowl past its opponents as it swept Hartnell Tuesday and Ohlone Wednesday on the road. With the wins, Gavilan improves to a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

Gavilan’s Angel Velasquez notched 13 saves against City College of San Francisco Friday, but unfortunately for the Rams, it wasn’t enough. Gavilan was shut out for the second straight game, this time falling 2-0.

The Gavilan and Ohlone volleyball teams went back and forth in Set 1 of Wednesday's match-up. But after the Rams recorded the first victory, 25-22, it was smooth sailing for Gavilan, which won in straight sets in Fremont.

GILROY—Gavilan breezed past Chabot to notch its first conference win of the season Friday at home.

Gavilan jumped out to an early lead against Foothill Tuesday, but just couldn't hold on. The Rams fell 4-2 at home. 

JUCO Volleyball: Two calls changed Rams’ season

GILROY—Over the summer, Kevin Kramer received an early Christmas gift—two of them actually. In a span of two months, the Gavilan College women’s volleyball coach learned one of his top players from last year—outside hitter Samantha Nydam—would be returning for her sophomore year at Gavilan.

JUCO Football: Reedley drops Rams 40-2

GILROY—Missed opportunities defined the game for Gavilan on Saturday night. Every chance the Rams had to reach the endzone ended in a disaster as they fell 40-2 to Reedley at Christopher High.

GILROY—Looking at the stats from Gavilan’s game against Yuba, it’s hard to see where it went wrong. The Rams outdid Yuba offensively, racking up 382 yards to the 49ers’ 353. They had more yards in the air—284 to 151—and less penalties, drawing only five flags to Yuba’s 11.
