WATSONVILLE—Gilroy had a couple goals in mind heading into Friday’s game with Pajaro Valley. The Mustangs obviously wanted to record a win, but they also wanted to ensure they established momentum for next week’s Severance Bowl.

The Gilroy girls soccer team beat Notre Dame 4-2 Friday at home. 

GILROY — Christopher needed to win its regular season finale to secure its place in the playoffs. Gilroy wasn’t about to roll over and let that happen.

Leading rusher Brandon Boyd, who had moments earlier electrified the home crowd, taking a pitch from quarterback Mikey Guerrero and turned it into an 85-yard completion to wide receiver Brendan Holler for a 13-6 GHS advantage, injured his right shoulder on MVC’s ensuing set of downs making a tackle.

WATSONVILLE—When Alex Felix goes into a match, his mindset isn’t necessarily focused on winning. The Gilroy High junior standout just happens to win because of that approach.

GILROY—Christopher exploded right out of the gate, scoring six runs in the first inning of its 8-3 victory over crosstown rivals Gilroy Friday at Gavilan College.

The Gilroy High girls basketball team has taken the must-win approach seriously. The Mustangs entered the week with a 2-5 record in the Tri-County Athletic League, looking in at the postseason from a distance. Wait just a minute.

The Gilroy High baseball team beat non-league opponent Milpitas 8-2 in its season debut Thursday. Senior Jordan Dexter went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Jaylan Gallardo had two RBIs and Bubu Garcia one for GHS.

Christopher High’s boys soccer team was rewarded for its strong season when coaches recently voted a pair of Cougars to the All-Monterey Bay League Pacific Division First Team.
