GILROY—After a weekend of tough competition and a flight home from Oklahoma, the first thing most people would want to do is rest.

Prep Roundup: Dec. 30

The last few games have been tough for the Christopher girls basketball team. The Cougars have dropped their last three straight, including back-to-back losses in the West Coast Jamboree Tournament. Christopher fell 71-42 to Enochs of Modesto Friday and 45-35 to Mercy Saturday.  Cydney Caradonna led the Cougars with 14 points against Enochs, but stats from the Mercy game were not yet available.  Christopher will have a chance to snap its losing streak today, wrapping up the tournament against Petaluma at 9 a.m.  BOYS BASKETBALL Mustangs drop third straight The Gilroy boys basketball team lost its third straight game, a 70-57 loss to Harbor at home Saturday.  Justin Hale led Gilroy with 21 points, but it wasn't enough. The Mustangs are now 4-6 on the season.  Gilroy will look to rebound at 7 p.m. Thursday against Christopher at home. 

SOFTBALL: No. 11 Pioneer ousts No. 6 Christopher in first round of CCS playoffs

The expression on pitcher Aly Olvera's face said it all. A quick glance back and up at the scoreboard above the center field fence validated the truth that her prep career was nearing the end much sooner than she and the rest of the Christopher High softball team had envisioned when waking up that morning.

SOFTBALL: Cougars beat Watsonville for sixth league win

Playing without starting pitcher Aly Olvera, who will miss two weeks of action after suffering a concussion during a tournament last weekend, the Christopher High softball team rallied for a “big team win” 5-1 over Watsonville on Thursday.

MONDAY ROUNDUP: Gavilan baseball, CHS baseball and softball earn wins

Two days after posting 20 hits against Skyline, the Gavilan College bats stayed active against Monterey Peninsula College in an 11-3 victory Monday in Monterey.

BASKETBALL: Williams garners TCAL co-MVP honor

More often than not, two defenders, sometimes three, surrounded Ashlee Williams any time she had the ball. Yet, the senior forward managed to average 20 points and 10 rebounds a night for the Gilroy High girls basketball team. And for that, Williams was named the Tri-County Athletic League’s co-Most Valuable Player along with Alisal’s Eva Latu.

After being beaten in sudden death overtime by Monterey last month, the Cougars returned the favor.

Softball Roundup: Live Oak rallies, wins thriller in rain over CHS

Brook Loesch was a single shy of hitting for the cycle, but Christopher High’s softball team suffered a 9-8 loss at Live Oak in the rain Thursday.
