GILROY—Xavier Smith knocked down a shot as the clock faded out on Friday’s home finale against Seaside—and the gym went into a frenzy. 

MORGAN HILL—Live Oak captain Amy Gunther said she’s more an assist player, but that didn’t stop her from knocking down baskets all night long.

GILROY—The third quarter has been Christopher’s Achilles heel and Thursday night was no different as North Salinas mauled the Cougars 69-38 in the Monterey Bay League-Gabilan Division opener.

Taylor Slattery, Agust Gomez and C.C. Contreras scored one goal each to help Gilroy High’s girls soccer team to a 3-0 home win over Watsonville on Wednesday night at Garcia-Elder Sports Complex.

The Gilroy High boys volleyball team triumphed in straight sets for the fourth consecutive Tri-County Athletic League Valley Division match, beating host Alisal 25-18, 25-17 and 25-13 on Tuesday night in Salinas.

GILROY—Anyone who has seen Katrina Carter play field hockey had no doubts she’d continue her career in college. But if you would’ve asked Carter if she thought she’d get to this level eight years ago, she probably would’ve laughed at the thought.

On paper, Friday’s Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division game between the San Benito and Gilroy baseball teams looked like a mismatch.
