GILROY—The last four years have been a roller coaster for the Gilroy Mustangs boys golf team.

As with every season, winning the first game in league play is a must. For the San Benito and Gilroy high baseball teams, a league-opening win meant even more, as the Balers try to earn a seventh-straight Tri-County Athletic League title and the Mustangs try knock their rival off that perch.

With the regular season finish line fast approaching, the chase for the Monterey Bay League crown in softball is down to a two-horse race. And the two teams are neck and neck as they jockey for the top position.

A rivalry on paper hardly translated to one on the floor as the Christopher boys basketball team easily handled Gilroy, 68-33 Friday night.

DJ Campos hit a fade away bank shot as time expired to give the Christopher High boys varsity basketball team a 71-70 victory over Alvarez in the opening round of the 32nd annual Bob Hagen Memorial Tournament on Thursday at Gilroy High.

BAKERSFIELD—Four turned out to be a really good number for the Gilroy High wrestling team at the California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships, Friday and Saturday at Rabobank Arena.

Though early in the league season, the Christopher High varsity girls basketball team has asserted itself as a contender for the league title come mid-February.

GILROY — Emma Leach has been playing field hockey at the Garcia-Elder Sports Complex for almost her entire career. On Wednesday, she had to say goodbye.

Thirty-eight former Gilroy High wrestlers and coaches were honored prior to Wednesday night's Tri-County Athletic League dual meet against San Benito, and the Mustangs proceeded to treat the alumni to a glimpse of the now with a dominating 64-12 victory under the spotlight at GHS.
