GILROY — Among the hoards and within the wafting aroma of literally tons of garlic were athletes and coaches who see and smell it all as the revenue of a new season.

GILROY—When John LaRocca got the idea to start his own wrestling company, he had a specific vision for it. He wanted a high energy event that was entertaining, but not overly dramatic like its WWE counterpart. LaRocca wanted it to be a platform to teach good sportsmanship to a family friendly audience and with that, Premier Wrestling was born.

GILROY—From the start, Nelson Villanueva knew his team was special.

I love my job. During my first year as Sports Editor, I’ve had numerous experiences I never thought I’d have. I’ve went to a San Jose Sharks game—and was 5 feet from Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane—went behind the scenes at AT&T Park and oh yeah, I went toe-to-toe with a former Garlic Queen during the 36th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival.

SAN JOSE—A goal 18 years in the making was finally accomplished Wednesday night.

GILROY—This time last year, Gilroy High was scrambling for a solution for its condemned bleachers. The home side bleachers had been deemed “not structurally sound” by San Jose-based Duquette Engineering and were said to be out of commission until April 2014. 

The 36th Gilroy Garlic Festival kicks off Friday at Christmas Hill Park and I’m ready for it.

SEASIDE—The Christopher boys basketball team is wasting no time preparing for the 2014-15 season.

GILROY—July 12 was a special morning for Elaine Wendel’s six grandchildren. After a week-long training session—and a whole year of waiting—each awoke to new outfits which had been custom embroidered with their names on it for the 6th Annual Gilroy Kids Triathlon at Gilroy High School.
