The Christopher girls golf team was holding its breath as the final scores were tallied. A collective sigh of relief could be heard as the Cougars (6-0) won their closest match of the year, a 283-290 win over Salinas at home Monday. Christopher Natalie Gutierrez and Salinas High's Madison Chapman tied for medalist honors, both shooting a 47. Gutierrez and Chapman both had multiple pars in the match. Nina Velez shot a 54 for the Cougars, while Alex Granados shot a personal best of 57.  Christopher will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pacific Grove. Â

One week after playing one strong half of football against highly ranked Costa Costa College, the Gavilan Rams made enough big plays in both halves to pull out a 33-29 non-conference victory over the College of the Redwood Corsairs Saturday afternoon.

Ties seem to be the trend for Gilroy thus far. The Mustangs tied 1-1 in overtime at Presentation Friday, putting them at 0-0-2 in the Mt. Hamilton League so far this year. GHS is 4-0-2 overall. The Mustangs were without the services of standout Katrina 'KC' Carter, who suffered an upper body injury in Wednesday's game against Mitty.  Freshman Emily Boykin scored the lone Gilroy goal, a game tying score with three minutes left to play.  Gilroy will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Leigh.Â
