Anthony "AJ" Harris, a junior at Dr. TJ Owens Gilroy Early College Academy is the Student of the Week for May 22.

What inspires you? I feel that my biggest inspiration is being able to look back at something that you have accomplished and feel a sense of pride. It’s good to take pride in your work; it pushes you to do your best and to try to do something great with your time.
What is your favorite subject in school, and why? My favorite subject in school tends to be any kind of scientific course. Things that are concrete in absolutes that build off each other are rather interesting because it allows for us to have a deeper understanding and reasoning for things that happen around us. After all, shouldn’t we have an understanding of the world?
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be? I feel that one thing I would want to change would be to encourage the understanding and communication of ideas. Too many people focus on themselves a lot of times, so I feel that the collaboration of putting minds together would create better advancements for the world.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go? I would like to visit Canada some time in the near future. Something about having a lot of spare space to move around and a lot of places to explore seems very inviting.
Name one big challenge in your life right now: I’d say my biggest struggle right now is actually just getting through finals. Exhaustion and the pressure of time begin to set in, but it’s almost over with. Just that final push until the end!
What is your dream job? My dream job is the same as what I currently do: system administration.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things could you not live without? If I was on a deserted island, I would bring a phone, a battery for said phone, and some water. Communication is an important part of our lives, so we should make sure that we are always in communication.
Favorite book: “Bringing Down the House” by Jeff Ma.
What do you want to do after high school? After high school, I want to head to U.C. Berkeley and target a degree in Computer Science before heading out into the working world.
